Huchems manages a CDM business that sells CERs(Certificated Emission Reductions) of greenhouse gasses produced during the Nitric acid production process. As per the Kyoto Agreement, CDM projects, which are quickly developing into a high growth industry, allow for the sale of emission reductions if companies in developing nations attract foreign investment and succeed in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
In cooperation with Carbon GmbH, Austria, Huchems installed Nitrous oxide ( ) reduction facilities in three Nitric acid plants, reducing 1.45 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year, the equivalent of emissions produced by 700,000 automobiles.
Huchems received the CDM business certification from the government in November 2006, and completed its registration at the UN in January 2007. Huchems has been selling greenhouse gas emission reduction credits since April 2007, achieving not only economic benefits but taking a leading position in greenhouse gas emission reduction in Korea and global environmental preservation.
